The information technology company “Tieto Latvia” has just presented its new, educational free application for learning mathematics for pre-school children and pupils of the first two grades.
The application named "Gudrinieks" (Smart guy) is aimed to develop children’s mathematical skills, to facilitate comprehension about mathematical basic coherences and to solidify knowledge learned at school. The tasks included in the application have been developed based on recommendations from the National Centre for Education.
The company believes that the opportunities provided by the modern technologies improve the process of education and smart devices, as well as the applications available thereof can help children to learn the educational material in an interesting and dynamic way.
It is envisaged that the application will be improved in the course of time using the open code software principles. By making publically available the primary code of the application, everyone will be provided an opportunity to improve the application by participating in the development of educational supplementary aid. In future it is planned to extend the application with a possibility to solve the text tasks.
The application "Gudrinieks" in Latvian will be available free of charge on the mobile application sites "Google Play" and "App Store" already in the nearest time.
The tasks contained in the application are grouped by themes, thus offering children a possibility to learn how to get oriented in space, to recognize digits, to get to know geometrical figures and colours, as well as to add, subtract, multiply and divide. In early 2014 the second version of the software will be available, which will be supplemented with a possibility to draw the digits and to solve the text tasks.
